ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Numenius of Apamea

Numenius of Apamea was a man who lived a very long time ago, even before your great-great-great-grandparents were born! He was a very smart man who spent a lot of time thinking and asking questions about life, the world around him, and the gods.

You know how sometimes you wonder why the sky is blue, or what happens when you die? Well, Numenius wondered about those things too, and he tried to find answers by thinking really hard and studying old books. He was a philosopher, which means he liked to use his brain to understand things about the world.

Numenius believed in something called "Neoplatonism," which is a big fancy word that means he thought there was one supreme being in charge of everything in the universe. He believed that this supreme being created everything and that we should be grateful and worship this being.

Numenius was very influential in his time and beyond, as his ideas and Philosophy continue to inspire people even today. So, while he may not have made the sky blue or answered all our questions about life and the universe, he did help us understand more about the world and our place in it!
