ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Numerosity adaptation effect

Numerosity adaptation effect is a way of understanding numbers. It’s when you look at a group of items, like dots on a page or blocks in a pile, and you can tell how many things are in the group. When you look at the same group of dots or blocks again, your brain is adapting to the number and you can tell how many are in the group without having to count them again. It’s like your brain remembers the number!
