ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Oath of Allegiance (Ireland)

Okay kiddo, so you know how when you start a new game or join a new team, you have to do something to show you belong there? It's kind of like that with the Oath of Allegiance in Ireland.

You see, when someone wants to become an Irish citizen or work for the government, they have to say a special promise called the Oath of Allegiance. This means they promise to be loyal to Ireland and follow its laws and rules.

The Oath says things like "I will be faithful and bear true allegiance to Ireland and uphold its Constitution," which means that they will always support Ireland and its rules, and they will try their best to be good citizens.

It's a way for people to show that they want to be a part of Ireland and they take that responsibility seriously. And just like when you make a promise to your friends or family, it's important to keep your promise to Ireland too.

Does that make sense, kiddo?
