ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Obamagate

Okay, kiddo. So there's a big, long story that some people are calling "Obamagate." It's about the previous President, Barack Obama, and some things that happened when he was in office.

You see, when someone becomes President, they have to follow a lot of rules and laws. One of these rules is that they can't just spy on people without a really good reason. It's called "wiretapping" and it's kind of like listening in on someone's phone conversations without them knowing.

So some people are saying that President Obama did something really bad. They're saying that he ordered some people to wiretap someone who was running for President against him in the 2016 election. That would be a really big deal, because it would mean that he was trying to cheat in the election by getting secret information about the other candidate.

But here's the thing, kiddo. There's not a lot of evidence that this actually happened. In fact, a lot of people are saying that "Obamagate" isn't a real thing at all. They say that it's just a made-up story to try to make the previous President look bad.

So for now, we don't really know if "Obamagate" is real or not. But what we do know is that it's important to follow the rules and not do anything that's against the law, even if you're in a really important job like being President of the United States.
