Oceans Act of 2000

Okay kiddo, so the Ocean Act of 2000 is a law that was made to help protect and manage the oceans around the United States. Think of the ocean like a giant swimming pool that we all share, but we need to make sure that everyone follows the rules so that we can all have fun and stay safe.

The Ocean Act says that the government has to work with scientists and other experts to figure out the best way to take care of the ocean. They need to make sure that the fish and other animals that live in the ocean are not being hurt or overfished. They also need to make sure that the water is healthy and clean so that people can swim, surf and play in it safely.

Another thing that the Ocean Act does is make sure that everyone who uses the ocean, like the ships and boats that carry goods around the world or the companies that drill for oil and gas, have to follow certain rules too. This is to make sure that their activities don't harm the ocean or the animals that live in it.

So, the Ocean Act of 2000 is a law that helps to protect and take care of our big beautiful ocean so that we can all enjoy it for many years to come.
