Off the verandah

Off the verandah is an expression often used to describe something that happened in the past but is now forgotten or no longer relevant. It comes from the days when people had porches (a verandah) on the front of their houses. Guests visiting the house would sometimes be invited inside, but if the guests didn't want to come in, they were told to "leave from off the verandah". This expression has come to mean that something is no longer relevant or important.
