An ogive is a picture that helps you understand how data is spread out. Imagine you have a bunch of candies, and you want to see how many people ate each color. To make an ogive, you would draw a graph with colors on one side and the number of people who ate each color on the other side. You would start with the color that the fewest people ate and draw a dot at the bottom of the graph. Then you would draw a line up to the number of people who ate that color. Then you would move on to the color the next smallest number of people ate and draw another dot, then a line up to that number. You would keep doing this until you’ve drawn a dot and line for each color. When you’re finished, you’ll have a graph that slopes up, like a staircase. This is an ogive, and it can help you see at a glance which colors were eaten the most and which were eaten the least.
