ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Oil additive

Oil additives are special chemicals that are added to the oil in your car's engine. Think of it like adding some special sauce to your favorite food to make it taste even better!

These oil additives can do different things depending on what they were made for. Some additives help to clean the engine and prevent build up of harmful deposits that can damage the engine, just like brushing your teeth helps prevent cavities.

Other additives help to reduce friction between the engine parts, like putting on a pair of socks so your feet don't rub against your shoes. This reduces wear and tear on the engine and helps it run more smoothly.

Some additives also improve the performance of the oil in extreme temperatures, like when it's really hot or really cold outside.

So, adding an oil additive to your car's engine is kind of like giving it a special boost to keep it running smoothly and prevent wear and tear. It's like giving your car a special treat to keep it healthy and running well!
