ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

One-off housing

One-off housing means building a house all by yourself in a place where there are no other houses nearby. It's like building your own special house in the middle of nowhere.

When you decide to build a house, you usually have to follow some rules, like getting permission from the government and building it in a place where other houses already are. But sometimes, people want to build their dream house in a different place than what the rules allow, like in the countryside.

People who want to build one-off houses may have to work extra hard to get permission because they have to show that their house won't cause any harm to the environment, and that it's safe to live in.

When the house is built, it'll be a very special place that you can call home!
