ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Open education

Open education is different than regular school, because it lets anyone learn anything they want, without having to pay tuition or go to class. Open education could mean watching online lectures, reading free textbooks, or taking free courses from universities on the internet. With open education, anyone anywhere can get access to the same quality of education, no matter what their financial situation is. This means that people who don't have the money for college, or who do not have access to traditional schools, can still get a high quality education.
