ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

OpenLR

OpenLR is like a secret code that tells cars where to go. You know when you play a treasure hunt game and you follow a map to find the treasure? That's kind of what OpenLR does – it gives cars a map to follow so they can get to where they need to go.

But, unlike a treasure hunt map, OpenLR is really good at telling cars where to go even if there are lots of different roads or if the roads have different names. It does this by breaking the roads down into little pieces, kind of like puzzle pieces. Then, it gives each piece of road its own special code.

When a car wants to know where to go, it uses something called a GPS to figure out where it is. Then, it looks at the OpenLR code for each little piece of road around it. Finally, it puts all the codes together, like a puzzle, to figure out the best way to get where it needs to go.

So, in short, OpenLR is like a secret code that helps cars figure out where to go by breaking the roads down into little pieces and giving each piece its own special code.
