Computed tomography, or CT, is a machine that can take pictures of the inside of your body. It's kind of like taking an X-ray picture, but much more detailed.
You lay down on a table and the CT machine takes pictures of different parts of your body. The machine looks like a donut with a bed that you lay on. It has an opening in the middle, and a tube moves around you while taking pictures.
The CT machine uses special X-rays that can take a picture of small slices of your body. It takes many pictures from different angles and then combines them using a computer to create a 3D image of your body part.
A doctor uses the pictures to see what's happening inside your body. They can see if there is something wrong, like a broken bone or a tumor. This helps the doctor decide what kind of treatment you may need.
CT scans can be very helpful, but they do use radiation, so you can't have too many of them. Your doctor will decide if a CT scan is necessary and safe for you.
