ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Optical comparator

An optical comparator is like a giant magnifying glass that helps us look really closely at things to see if they are made correctly. We put the thing we want to look at, like a tiny part, on a special table and turn on the machine. Then, a bright light shines down and bounces off a special mirror and onto the part. This makes the part look really big on a screen. We can then compare it to a picture of what it's supposed to look like to see if it's made right or if it needs to be fixed. It's like using a big eye to help us see things better, so we can make sure things are made perfectly!
