ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Optical interconnect

Optical interconnects are like a way to link different electronic devices together. It uses a special kind of technology called optics, which is like a fancy form of light. Instead of using wires like regular electronic links, optical interconnects use beams of light to send messages between the devices. This means that data can be sent much faster, over longer distances, and use less energy than with normal links.
