ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Orange-Book-Standard

Okay kiddo, have you ever seen a library where there are many books on the shelves? Well, all those books have different topics and authors, right? And imagine if someone wrote a book but it wasn't very good, maybe it had wrong information or didn't explain things very well. That's not very helpful, right?

So, to make sure that the books in the library are good and accurate, people made something called standards. A standard is like a set of rules that a book needs to follow to be considered good.

Now, let's talk about medicines. You know how when we get sick, we sometimes need to take medicine to help us feel better? Those medicines are like the books in the library, they have different names and help with different things. But just like books, some medicines are better than others.

That's where the Orange Book Standard comes in. It's a set of rules that medicines need to follow in order to be considered good and safe to take. It's basically a list of approved medicines that doctors and pharmacists can use to make sure they are giving their patients the right medicine.

So, just like how we want good books at the library, we also want good medicines to help us get better. And the Orange Book Standard helps make sure we're taking the right ones!
