Order of precedence in Scotland

Order of precedence is like making a list of important people and deciding who goes first. In Scotland, this list is used when there are important events and people need to know who should be seated or greeted first.

At the top of the list is the Queen, because she is the most important person in the country. Then comes her husband, Prince Philip, followed by her children and their spouses in order of their birth.

After them, the list includes other important people like the Prime Minister and other cabinet members, the Lord Provost of Edinburgh, and the Lord Justice General.

Each person on the list is important and deserving of respect, but sometimes it's necessary to decide who gets special treatment because of their position. And that's what the order of precedence helps with.
