ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Ornament (music)

An ornament in music is like a fancy decoration or trim that we add to a melody to make it sound even more pretty or interesting. Just like how you might add some glitter or stickers to a drawing to make it look nicer, musicians add ornaments to their melodies to make them sound nicer too.

Some examples of ornaments include trills, which are like little wiggles or shakes that we add to a note to make it sound more lively. Another example is a turn, which is like a little spin or twist that we add to a note to make it sound more graceful.

Ornaments can be a bit tricky to play at first, but once you get the hang of them, they can make your music sound really special and fancy. So don't be afraid to add some ornaments to your melodies and really make them shine!
