ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Ossification

Ossification is when your bones grow and become stronger. When you are born, your bones are not very strong, but they grow and get stronger as you get older.

Inside your bones, there are cells that help to make new bone. These cells are like little builders who put together tiny blocks to make bigger blocks, and then those bigger blocks come together to make your bones grow.

When you break a bone, your body also uses ossification to fix it. The cells that make new bone go to the place where the bone is broken and start building more bone to make it strong again.

So ossification is like your own personal construction crew, building and strengthening your bones so you can run and jump and play all day long.
