ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Overlogging

Overlogging is when too many trees are cut down without giving new trees enough time to grow. Imagine, if you go to a cookie jar and keep taking cookies without ever putting any back, the jar will soon become empty. The same goes for trees, if we keep cutting them without allowing new ones to grow, eventually there will be no more trees left.

Trees are essential to our environment, they produce oxygen that we breathe, reduce carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, and provide shelter for animals. If we cut them down too much, it can cause problems like soil erosion, flooding, and loss of habitat for animals.

So, we need to be careful about how much we cut down and make sure that we plant new trees to replace the ones we take. It's like making sure we don't take all the cookies in the jar, but only a few and leave some for later. This is important for our environment so we can have a healthy planet for ourselves and future generations.
