Overmountain Men

Overmountain men were a group of people who lived in the mountains on the east coast of America a long time ago, around the 1700s. These mountains were called the Appalachian Mountains. These people were called the "overmountain men" because they lived on the other side of the mountains away from the rest of the country.

The overmountain men were very independent and self-reliant. They didn't have big cities or many people around them, so they had to learn how to take care of themselves. They hunted for food, built their own homes, and made their own clothing. They were tough and strong because they had to be to survive in the mountains.

During the American Revolutionary War, the overmountain men played a very important role in winning the war. They were on the side of America and wanted to help fight the British. The problem was that the British army was very big and powerful. The overmountain men didn't have a big army, so they had to think of a clever plan to win the war.

The overmountain men came up with the idea to join forces with another group of people called the Patriots, who were also fighting against the British. The overmountain men traveled for a long time over the mountains to meet up with the Patriots. They didn't have roads or fancy cars like we do now, so it was a difficult journey.

When they finally met up with the Patriots, they combined their forces and became very strong. They were able to defeat a big British army at a battle called King's Mountain. This was a very important victory for America because it helped them win the war.

In summary, overmountain men were tough and self-sufficient people who lived in the mountains a long time ago. They played an important role in the American Revolutionary War by joining forces with the Patriots to defeat the British at King's Mountain.
