Oxide jacking

Oxide jacking is a thing that can happen when you have something made of metal, like a pipe or a tank, that has a special layer called oxide on the inside. Imagine it like the way you might have a coating of paint on your toy car.

This oxide layer is a good thing because it can protect the metal from getting rusty and falling apart. But sometimes, the metal is exposed to something that can make the oxide layer grow very quickly, like when there is a small amount of water inside the pipe or tank.

As the oxide layer grows, it can push against the metal and create cracks or bumps. Think of it like blowing up a balloon inside a paper bag – the bag might start to get bigger and bigger until it pops!

When oxide jacking happens, it can be dangerous because the cracks and bumps in the metal can get bigger and bigger until the whole thing breaks. This can lead to leaks, spills, or even explosions.

So, it's important to make sure that any metal things that might have an oxide layer are inspected regularly to make sure they are still safe and not at risk of oxide jacking. That way, everyone can stay safe and the things we use every day can keep working the way they should!
