Pack saddle

Okay kiddo, so you know when we go hiking in the mountains and we need to carry a lot of stuff like food, water, tents, and other things with us? Well, when we have too much stuff to carry in just a backpack, we use something called a pack saddle which is like a special backpack for animals like horses or mules.

A pack saddle is a special kind of saddle that fits on the back of an animal like a horse or mule. It has special bags or baskets on each side, called panniers, where we can put all our stuff that we need to carry. The pack saddle is designed to evenly distribute the weight of the things we are carrying so that the animal can carry it comfortably without getting tired or hurt.

To make sure the pack saddle stays in place, we put a special pad, called a cinch or a girth, around the animal's belly and tighten it up. This helps keep the pack saddle and all our things from moving around too much when we're going up and down hills or walking on rough terrain.

People have been using pack saddles for a very long time, especially in places where it's hard to get around by car or other means of transportation. They're really useful for carrying all kinds of things, and they make hiking and camping in the mountains a lot more fun and comfortable!
