ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Paddywagon

Okay kiddo, have you ever seen a big van with bars on the windows that the police use to take bad guys to jail? That van is called a "paddywagon".

The word "paddy" comes from a nickname for Irish people. A long time ago, many Irish people were sent to jail for breaking the laws in their new country, and they were often transported to jail in big wagons like this.

Nowadays, police still use vans like these to take people to jail. They're big and sturdy so they can fit lots of people inside and keep them secure.

So, a paddywagon is just a big van that the police use to transport people who have broken the law. It's not a place you want to be if you've been naughty!
