ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Page fault

When your computer wants to use some information, it looks for it in its memory. But sometimes, the information it needs is not in the memory. This is called a "page fault". It's like when you ask your mom for a toy and she can't find it in your toy box because it's in the laundry basket.

When this happens on a computer, it has to go and look for the information somewhere else, like on the hard drive. This takes longer than finding something in the memory, so it can make your computer run slower for a little while.

But don't worry, your computer is really smart and it knows how to find what it needs even if it's not in the memory right away!
