ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Paleo-inspiration

Paleo-inspiration is when people look to what our distant ancestors, also called Paleolithic humans, ate and did for inspiration in their own lives. Imagine that a long, long time ago, people didn't have cars, phones or even grocery stores. They had to hunt for their food and gather plants to eat. This is what we call the Paleolithic era, and people who lived back then are sometimes also called cavemen or cavewomen.

Modern health experts think that the diet and lifestyle of our ancient ancestors were healthy and that we can learn a lot from them. Researchers believe that they had less chronic diseases like obesity, type 2 diabetes, and heart disease compared to people today. That's why some people choose to follow a Paleo-inspired diet, which means they eat like the cavemen and cavewomen did – lots of lean meat, fish, fruits and vegetables and very little processed food.

Paleo-inspiration also extends to other aspects of life, not just food. For example, some people might try to be more active like our Paleolithic ancestors by doing things like hiking, walking instead of driving, and playing outside instead of watching TV. By following a paleo-inspired lifestyle, some people believe that they can live healthier, happier lives like our ancient relatives did.
