Do you know what a tiger is? It's a big cat with stripes. But did you know that there used to be a special kind of tiger that lived in a special place called Java? This tiger had a very special name too - Panthera tigris soloensis.
You see, many years ago, there were lots of different kinds of tigers roaming around the world. And one of these kinds lived only in the island of Java, which is in Indonesia. People called it Panthera tigris soloensis, but you can call it Javan tiger.
The Javan tiger was different from other tigers because it had a darker, thicker coat of fur and shorter stripes. And because it only lived in one place, it was very special and important to the people who lived there.
Sadly, though, the Javan tiger is now extinct. That means it doesn't exist anymore. People hunted them for their skin, and their habitat was destroyed by people moving into their land. So now, we can only see pictures of this amazing and unique tiger. But we can learn from their story and work to make sure other animals don't suffer the same fate as the Javan tiger.
