Papal deposing power

Imagine you are playing a game with your friends and you get to be the boss. You have the power to decide who gets to play and who doesn't. That's kind of like what being the Pope is like in the Catholic Church. The Pope is the leader of the Church and has a lot of power to make important decisions.

One of the things the Pope could do in the past was to take away someone's power or position in the Church. This was called the papal deposing power. It meant that if someone did something the Pope didn't like or didn't follow Church rules, the Pope could say they weren't allowed to be in charge anymore. It was kind of like getting kicked out of the game.

But nowadays the papal deposing power isn't used as much as it used to be. The Church has changed over time and there are different ways to handle things that people disagree on. The Pope still has a lot of power, but he usually tries to work things out with people instead of just taking away their power.
