ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Para-alpine skiing

Para-alpine skiing is a fun sport where people who may have physical disabilities can still go skiing! People who have trouble walking or moving around may use special equipment, like a sit ski, to help them slide down a hill on skis.

A sit ski is like a special chair on skis that people can sit on and be strapped in so they don't fall off. They use their arms to hold onto poles and steer themselves down the hill.

People who have a visual impairment also participate in para-alpine skiing with the help of a guide. The guide is a person who skis in front of the skier and lets them know which direction to go. Sometimes they use special communication devices like radios to make it easier to communicate.

Just like in regular skiing, there are different courses and races for people of different skill levels. Para-alpine skiers can go as fast or slow as they want and enjoy the fun of skiing just like everyone else!
