Parallel universes in fiction

Parallel universes in fiction are stories where there are multiple versions of the same world or universe. Each version of the universe is usually slightly different so that the people, places and events are all different. For example, in one universe the character may be a King, but in another they may be a poor farmer. In fiction, parallel universes often intersect and it is possible for people or creatures to travel between the universes.
