Hello friend! Let me tell you a story about a place called Paris between the years 1919 to 1939.
Now imagine mommy and daddy just finished fighting in a big, big war, and everyone is feeling a little tired and sad. But in Paris, people were trying really hard to forget about the war and make their city the most beautiful and exciting place in the whole wide world!
This is what we call the "interwar period", which is just a fancy way of saying the time between the two big wars. During this time, a new type of art called "modernism" started becoming really popular in Paris. People were making paintings, sculptures, and buildings that looked very different from anything that had been made before.
But the fun wasn't just in the art. During this time, people were also trying to make their city more lively and fun. They built things called "cafés" where people could sit, drink coffee, and talk about ideas. They also had clubs where people could dance all night long, and they even had "cabarets" where people would sing and perform for everyone else.
Paris between the wars was also a time for fashion! People were wearing clothes that were very different than the clothes people wore before the war. Women started wearing shorter dresses and cutting their hair shorter too! They even started wearing makeup, which was very unusual for them before. Men were wearing fancy suits and hats that made them look very handsome.
But not everything was fun and games during this time. The Great Depression happened, which meant that lots of people didn't have enough money to buy food and clothes. Additionally, some people began to hate each other just because they came from different countries, which was not right at all.
But even with all of that, Paris between the wars was a very special time for art, entertainment, and fashion. It was a time when people tried to make their world more beautiful and more exciting than ever before!
