ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Paritta

Paritta is like a magic spell or a protective chant in Buddhism. It is a way to ask for protection from danger, fear or harm. When people recite parittas, they believe that the words will keep them safe and bring them good fortune. It is often used during special religious ceremonies or in times of trouble.

Just like when you wear your favourite superhero outfit to feel brave and strong, reciting parittas is like saying a special prayer or wearing a magical cloak to protect you from bad things in the world. It is a way to feel strong and safe, just like you feel when you are with people you love and trust.

Some parittas are very old, and have been passed down from generation to generation for a long time, like a family recipe for a special cake. People believe that these powerful words can ward off evil spirits and make good things happen. Just like how your mom or dad might say "everything will be ok, I'm here with you" when you are scared, reciting parittas gives people hope and comfort that everything will be alright.
