Part of speech is a way of categorizing words based on how they are used. We organize words into eight different parts of speech:
1. Nouns: Words that identify people, places, things, qualities, or ideas. For example, book, mom, tree, strength, and beauty.
2. Pronouns: Words that take the place of a noun. For example, I, she, him, we, them.
3. Adjectives: Words that describe nouns. For example, big, red, beautiful, chewy.
4. Verbs: Words that describe an action or state of being. For example, sleep, eat, walk, think, is.
5. Adverbs: Words that describe verbs. For example, quickly, slowly, beautifully, amazingly.
6. Prepositions: Words that describe the relationship between a noun and another word in a sentence. For example, in, on, under, above, between.
7. Conjunctions: Words that link two clauses or sentences together. For example, and, but, so, or, yet.
8. Interjections: Words that express emotion. For example, wow, ouch, yay, oh, hurray.
