ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Partitive plural

The partitive plural is like sharing toys between many friends. Let's say you have a big bag of candy and you want to share it with your 5 friends. You don't give them all the candy at once, but just a part of it so everyone can have some. In the same way, in some languages like French or Italian, when you talk about an amount of something that is not a whole unit, you use the partitive plural. For example, instead of saying "I ate an apple", you would say "I ate some apples". This is because when you eat one apple, you don't eat the whole bag. So, you use the partitive plural to show that you took a part of the whole amount.
