Okay kiddo, so you know how different places in the world are ruled by different people? Well, a long time ago, Timbuktu was a very important city in Mali, which is a country in Africa. And in Timbuktu, there was someone called a Pashalik who was in charge of the city.
The Pashalik was kind of like a king or a queen, but they were chosen by someone else called the Sultan. The Sultan was even more powerful than the Pashalik and controlled lots of different cities in Mali.
The Pashalik of Timbuktu was responsible for making sure that the people who lived there were safe and happy. They had to make important decisions about things like trade, taxes, and even religious matters. And because Timbuktu was a really big city, the Pashalik had lots of people working for them to help with all of these things.
So basically, the Pashalik of Timbuktu was like a boss who was in charge of making sure everything ran smoothly in the city. And even though Timbuktu isn't as important as it used to be, the history of the Pashalik is still remembered today.
