ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Pashayi languages

Pashai languages are a group of languages spoken by people in parts of Afghanistan and Pakistan. These languages are very old and have been spoken for many, many years by their ancestors.

Think of it like this: you know how you have a special way of talking with your family and friends that other people might not understand? That's kind of how the Pashai languages work, too. The people who speak these languages have their own way of communicating with each other that might be different from the more common languages spoken in their countries.

Even though the Pashai languages are different from other languages, they still have some things in common. They use the same basic building blocks of language, like words and grammar rules.

Just like how you might learn different languages in school, some people learn how to speak different Pashai languages. And just like how you might have trouble understanding someone who is speaking a different language, people who speak different Pashai languages may have trouble understanding each other.

But even though these languages are different, they are still important to the people who speak them. They help the Pashai people express their thoughts, feelings, and ideas in their own unique way.
