ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Patent examiner

A patent examiner is like a teacher who checks your homework to see if it’s original and new. They work for the government and their job is to read through patent applications to make sure that the invention is really something new and hasn’t been invented before. They use a lot of big words and complicated rules to make sure everything is fair and correct. Once they approve the patent, the inventor can claim ownership and stop other people from copying their invention without permission. It’s kind of like getting a gold star for doing something really well!
