ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Peering

Peering is just like sharing toys with your friends. When you have a toy, you can decide to play with it by yourself or share it with your friends. In computer terms, when two big companies have a lot of information to share, they can choose to play nicely with each other and share their information.

This is called "peering:" the two big companies agree to share their information without charging each other fees. It's like a really good trade deal between the two companies.

But why would they do this? Well, it saves them both money because they don't have to pay for their information to be sent through a middleman who charges them fees. Instead, they can send their information to each other directly without any extra costs.

Just like when you share toys with your friends, peering can make everyone happy and help everyone save money!
