Peggy Stewart (ship)

Imagine you have a toy boat that floats on water. Now, imagine a big boat that is much much bigger than your toy boat. That big boat is called Peggy Stewart.

Peggy Stewart is actually a real boat, not a toy. It is called a ship because it is so big and can sail on the water. Peggy Stewart was built a long time ago, in the year 1762. That's almost 260 years ago, which is a very long time!

Peggy Stewart was famous for something that happened to it many years ago. In the year 1774, there was a law called the Stamp Act that said people had to pay more money for things like paper and tea. Some people didn't like this law and they got angry. A group of people in America, where Peggy Stewart was, decided to protest against the law. They didn't like the idea that they had to pay more money for things they needed.

One day, some of these angry people got on Peggy Stewart and they set it on fire. This means they damaged the boat by making it burn. They did this to show their anger against the Stamp Act. This event became very famous and people still talk about it today.

Peggy Stewart did not sink or disappear after the fire. It was repaired and still sailed on the water for many years. Today, Peggy Stewart is not sailing anymore, but it is still remembered as an important part of American history.
