People's Olympiad

The People's Olympiad was an idea for a big sports competition that was supposed to happen in 1936 in Barcelona, Spain. You know how you like playing games and having fun with your friends? Well, grown-ups like doing that too, and the People's Olympiad was going to be a chance for people from all over the world to come together and have fun playing sports.

But then something happened. Do you know who Adolf Hitler is? He was a very mean man who did bad things to people who were different than him. He was the leader of Germany at the time, and he wanted everyone to think that Germany was the best country in the world. He decided to have his own big sports competition, called the Olympics, in Berlin, which is the capital of Germany. Hitler wanted to show the world that Germany was the best at everything, including sports.

Some countries didn't want to go to Hitler's Olympics because they thought he was very mean and did bad things. They thought it was better to go to the People's Olympiad instead, which was supposed to be a fair and fun competition. But then, a few weeks before the competition was supposed to happen, the leaders of the People's Olympiad decided to cancel it because they were worried it would turn into a big argument between different countries.

So, unfortunately, the People's Olympiad didn't happen. But people still talk about it today because it was a way for people from all over the world to come together and have fun, even if only for a short time.
