ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Perfect power

Okay kiddo, imagine you have a number like 8. We call this a 'power' because it's being raised to a certain level. Now, if we want to know if 8 is a 'perfect power', it means can we find two other numbers, let's say 2 and 3, that when we multiply them together we get 8?

If we can find those two numbers, then 8 is a perfect power. But if we can't, then 8 is not a perfect power. Some numbers, like 27, are perfect powers because we can find two numbers (in this case 3 and 3) that we can multiply together to get the original number.

Being a perfect power is kind of like being a puzzle that we're trying to solve. We want to find two numbers that will fit together just right to make the original number. If we can solve the puzzle, then we know that number is a perfect power.
