Periodontology

Periodontology is the branch of dentistry that deals with the health of the tissues around the teeth. It includes helping to keep the gums healthy and preventing or treating gum disease. The gums help keep your teeth in place, so it's important to keep them healthy and free of diseases, infections, and other problems. To do this, periodontists (dentists who specialize in periodontology) can do things like give you special cleanings to remove plaque and tartar, and look at the health of your gums. They can do surgery to help your gums if something is wrong and give you medicines to help them stay healthy.
