The Permian-Triassic extinction event is a big, long word that means a very important thing that happened a very long time ago. It happened to our planet, Earth, a really, really long time ago, millions and millions of years ago.
You see, back then, the Earth was a much different place than it is today. There were lots of different animals and plants living on it, just like there are today, but they were very different. Some of these animals were very, very big and some were very, very small.
One day, something really big happened that changed everything. The Earth started to get really, really hot. The air was full of lots of really dangerous gases that made it hard for the animals and plants to breathe. The oceans got really, really hot too, and some of the animals that lived in the sea started to die.
Lots and lots of animals and plants started to die because of the heat and the dangerous gases. Even the ones that were really strong and tough couldn't survive. And because of this, almost all of the animals and plants on Earth disappeared forever. It was a really sad time for the Earth.
Scientists call this the Permian-Triassic extinction event. It's one of the biggest and most important things that ever happened to our planet. And even though it happened a really, really long time ago, we can still learn a lot from it today.
