ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Permyriad

Permyriad is a way of talking about very small amounts. It means "per ten thousand." That's like saying "out of ten thousand things, this is how many there are."

Let's imagine you have a big bucket of candy. There are 10,000 pieces of candy in the bucket. If someone told you there were 500 permyriad chocolate candies in the bucket, that would mean there are 500 out of 10,000 chocolates.

It's like a tiny percentage, but instead of saying 0.05%, we say "500 permyriad." It's not something you'll hear very often, but sometimes people use it when they're talking about really small numbers.
