ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Persistent URL

Okay, let's say you have a toy that you really like to play with. Sometimes you have to put it away for a while because you have to do other things like eat or sleep. When you want to play with your toy again, you need to remember where you put it so you can find it easily.

A persistent url is kind of like that. Sometimes when you're on the computer, you find a really cool website that you want to go back to later. But just like with your toy, you might have to do other things on the computer and close the website.

Now, if you want to go back to that website again, you'll have to remember what it's called and type it in on the computer. That can be hard to remember, especially if the website has a long and complicated name.

But if the website has a persistent url (which is also called a "permalink"), it's like having a special box where you can put your toy so you always know where to find it. The persistent url is a special code or address that stays the same no matter what happens. Even if the website changes its name or design, the persistent url will still work, just like the special box will always hold your toy.

So with a persistent url, you can always go back to the website you liked without having to remember its name or search for it again. It's like having a shortcut that never disappears!
