Persistent vegetative state

A persistent vegetative state (PVS) is a medical condition where a person has serious problems with their brain function. This means the person is no longer able to respond to the world around them or think for themselves. The person might be able to move their eyes and head, and make noises or facial expressions, but can't speak or understand language. They also can't take care of themselves or show any signs that they understand what is happening to them. Someone in a PVS can sometimes stay in this state for years and needs round-the-clock care.
