ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Pheochromocytoma

Okay, so you know how our body has different parts that help us do different things? One of those parts is called the adrenal gland, and it helps us deal with stress by making certain chemicals that give us extra energy when we need it.

Sometimes, the adrenal gland can grow a special kind of tumor called a pheochromocytoma. This tumor makes too much of those chemicals we talked about earlier, and that can make you feel really jittery and scared even when there's no reason to be. It's like feeling scared on a roller coaster all the time.

Doctors can usually find pheochromocytomas by doing some special tests and imaging to see if there's a tumor in the adrenal gland. Once they find it, they can usually remove it with surgery, and then you won't feel so scared and jittery anymore!
