Philippine folk literature

Philippine folk literature is a collection of stories, songs, and poems that have been passed down from generation to generation in the Philippines. Just like how your parents and grandparents might tell you stories before you go to sleep, Filipino ancestors also told stories to their children to teach them about their culture, history, and values.

These stories are often about heroes, mythical creatures, and everyday people facing difficult challenges. They might tell the story of a brave warrior fighting monsters to protect his village or a cunning trickster who outwits his enemies. Sometimes the stories are accompanied by songs or poems that are meant to be sung or recited.

These stories were originally passed down through oral traditions and were told in the native languages of the Philippines. Each region of the country has its own set of folk stories, often with unique characters and settings that are specific to that area.

Today, many of these stories have been written down and can be found in books, but they are still an important part of Filipino culture. They remind people of their history, values, and beliefs, and they bring people together through shared experiences and traditions.
