Phlebotominae

Phlebotominae are tiny bugs that like to bite and suck blood from animals and humans. They are so small that you can’t see them without a microscope! They live in warm and humid environments and are especially common in South and Central America.

Some types of Phlebotominae are dangerous because they can carry a parasite that causes a disease called leishmaniasis. This parasite can make people and animals very sick!

When these bugs bite, they inject an anticoagulant into the skin to keep the blood flowing. This can cause itching and other uncomfortable symptoms.

To protect yourself from Phlebotominae, it’s important to wear bug spray and protective clothing, especially when you’re in areas where they’re common. And if you do get bitten, be sure to watch for signs of infection or sickness and seek medical attention if necessary.
