ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Photon polarization

Photon polarization is like wearing a pair of sunglasses. Photons, which are tiny particles of light that carry energy, usually have lots of different directions that the light can be pointing in. Polarization makes it so that the photon light can only travel in one particular direction. It's like the sunglasses block out the light coming from any other direction, allowing the light to only come from the single direction the sunglasses are facing.
