ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Phylogenetic network

A phylogenetic network is like a family tree, but for any type of living thing—plants, animals, and even microbes. It is a diagram that shows how different groups of living things are related to each other and how they have changed over time. The lines in the diagram show how far back in time the relationships between groups go and how far apart they are from each other. You can think of it like a map showing the different paths that evolution has taken and how each group of living things has changed over time.
